Designer Spotlight: Printerette Press!

I am just beyond excited to finally tell y'all about one of our newest albums: Printerette Press. When Whitney and I discovered Printerette Press at the National Stationery Show this past May, we squealed out loud in her booth as we poured through her album.  For reals, friends, this album is LEGIT.

I'm totally ga-ga over just about everything that designer Catherine Polacek has put together for this gorgeous line.  The work is all beautifully printed by hand on her 100 year old press in St. Paul, MN, but it's her whimsical design and illustration that really spoke to me.  We had been looking for a hand-illustrated line to add to our collection of invitation albums and all the pretty in the Printerette book just took my breath away.

I did a serious happy dance when I came upon her Lake of the Woods suite (immediately below) and her Redwood suite (2nd suite below).  Each illustration is done by hand and can be totally customized for your event/venue/whims. We've already had a couple customize one of these with illustrations of the camp where they'll be married next month.  It was mucho adorbs.

And, as if custom illustration on your invitations is SUPER RAD enough, Printerette went ahead and added watercolor detailing (digitally printed) to some of her letterpress designs. Watercolor + beautiful printing + totally fresh design = Awesomesauce.  Check out a few of the Printerette designs below and then schedule an appointment to come in and swoon over this album in person.  You will fall in love (all over again).

Gus & Ruby Letterpress in Martha Stewart Weddings magazine!!

Happy Monday, peeps! Hope you all had a lovely holiday weekend. We have some more VERY exciting news to share today: Gus & Ruby Letterpress is featured in the current issue of Martha Stewart Weddings magazine!!

We were absolutely thrilled to have our beautiful, calligraphy-based Wenham Suite chosen for the stationery feature in this Real Weddings issue. The collection, originally designed and printed in classic navy and silver for an incredible couple this past summer, was chosen by the editors to be featured in the "Summer" section of their seasonal stationery story. We adapted the palette of this letterpress suite to bold raspberry and light pink and kept the original features including a raspberry and blind printed belly band, custom gate-fold folio and stunning calligraphy by Elizabeth Porcher Jones. It's timeless and romantic and we couldn't be happier to see it on the glossy pages of MSW among work from some other very talented designers.

one canoe two

Oh, pals....
Boy do I have some great news for you today!

To share a bit of a back-story here: the truth is that we've had One Canoe Two on our radar for a while now, but they really fleshed out their line this past winter and I was finally able to pull my thoughts together and get an order together. The lovely ladies behind Canoe put down roots in Missouri in a the 3rd floor loft of a big old barn and have been letterpress printing their hearts out since! Sounds like a big-old success story to me :)

Their beautiful stationery and gifty goods arrived today and totally BRIGHTENED my day! Big thanks to Beth, Carrie & Karen - we love you and love what you do!

A few letterpress prints for ya :)

A more rustic-style recipe box for all of you out there who need to get your Mama's pot pie and Grandpappy's beef stew ingredients corralled...

How about some perfectly prim mixed letterpress printed thank-yous - all those greetings are hand-written by the lovely ladies and then printed on their C&P...

Their "Things That Are Round" letterpress printed coasters make me swoon! Sorta gets me excited for some sweaty glasses of lemonade this summer, don't you agree ;)

And yes, that's a sweet little wooden box with address cards for you to keep on your pretty little desk at home. Genius, right?! One of the lady's pops makes the boxes by hand for them - gotta love that too!!

Simple, bright and fun, don't 'cha think?!
Happy Thursday pals, it's almost Friday (which means that I'll be looking forward to seeing your handsome faces poking around town soon because the weekend is right around the corner!) and I'll be back tomorrow with another little post on some new greeting cards from Fine Day Press, and a little snippet about the new Sea Bags we just got in!
Woohoooo -

love ya to bits and pieces,
Lizzy Lou

Spotted: Elizabeth & David's farm wedding in NH Wedding Magazine!

We love spotting our clients' weddings in magazines! There is just nothing better than seeing the beautiful photos of our incredible clients' big day in all the hi-gloss glory of print :)

You all remember Elizabeth & David and their farm wedding themed stationery, right? We had a blast with the design of their save the date and then collaborating with talented illustrator, Nate Duval, to create a whimsical, inspired invitation suite. And, while we are smitten with the pretty paper details, it was the bride and groom, E&D, who made this project one of our favorites. These two lovebirds, and their families, are just about the nicest people you could ever hope to meet. We had the best time going through the design process with them and even had a whole slew of their family and friends at the store for an afternoon assembly party. From start to finish, it was a wonderful experience.

Well, great news!, their gorgeous wedding is featured (hello, cover spot!) in the new issue of New Hampshire Wedding magazine. Hooray! As you'll see, their wedding was sweet, rustic, beautiful and personal. Everything you could want for a couple like Elizabeth & David.

Check out the web-ified version of the magazine spread HERE and below.

Dylan & Kristy's super rad, type-driven invitations

Here at Gus & Ruby Letterpress we LOVE designing and printing custom wedding invitations for our super awesome clients, but we also enjoy letterpress printing for many of the super talented designers that reside in the greater metro Portsmouth area. It is so much fun collaborating with artists as they dream up designs for their very own wedding invitations knowing that we get to make the finished pieces come to life for them!

The first couple we ever collaborated with was the fantastically rad duo of Dylan Haigh & Kristy Martino, known now simply as HAM (Haigh and Martino), who moved to Portsmouth in 2009 on a bit of a whim after leaving their design agency down south. I was obsessed with these two immediately, mostly because they seemed so cool in their skinny jeans and retro glasses, but also because the colors they had chosen for their wedding invites were warm red and yellow with pops of black and teal. Nobody E V E R picks colors like that for wedding invites. They even brought Pantone chips with them. Enough said. The two were working on designs for their save the dates "together", which hilariously consisted of them each arguing their case as to why their design was better than the other's. Yet there was no arguing. It was kind of mind blowing.

Anyways, I could go on and on about these two, but I'll get right to their awesome designs. We printed on 220# duplex in fluorescent white to make their bright colors pop as much as possible. I honestly can't remember who's design "won" and/or if the final designs were truly a collaboration of both of their talents, but it doesn't really matter because they were super duper awesome and pretty cool to print.

Here is a detailed shot of the save the date (how flippin' cute is that?):

Full shot of the No. 10 (approx. 4x9") save the date:

Here is a pic of the whole suite:

Super bright envelopes! Wouldn't you love receiving this in the mail?

Not quite sure what this is, but I like it:

Pretty cute right? Dylan & Kristy saved money by printing each piece in 1-color, printing their own gatefolds and stickers and using a reply postcard rather than a reply card and envelope. Since joining their lives together in holy matrimony, the two have founded their own design agency, appropriately named, HAM. Check out their work and musings:
