My beautiful bridal shower

I have been eager to post pics from the gorgeous bridal shower my friends threw me on June 12, but we had held off in the hopes that we could submit it to a favorite wedding blog. We are thrilled to report that the shower is featured on The Sweetest Occasion blog this morning, one of our absolute favorites!

Before you head on over there, I want to give a little shout-out to those who put the shower together. For our wedding I had 5 bridesmaids and no maid of honor as I wanted to leave that spot open for my dear sister and best friend, Hilary who passed away three years ago. Having no assigned maid in charge I think the girls had a tad bit of trouble getting things organized in the very beginning, but Sam quickly took charge as she had all of the great vendor connections and local access to the restaurant. The theme of the shower was "Let's feather her nest!" and as you will see from the pictures, she carried this idea from the invitations (letterpress printed by my dad:) to the favors (my favorite part) to the decor and attire.

Sam, Dre, Amy, Lauren and Maya, thank you for throwing me the most beautiful and thoughtful shower of all time! I can't believe how much time and effort you put in and I am so SO thankful to have you all in my life!

OK, that's all. Now you can head on over to The Sweetest Occasion and see all of the amazing photographs, taken by (you guessed it) the lovely Emilie Sommer.

AN ENORMOUS FAN...

Hey there folks - just checking in to serve you up a fab-tabulous update. We stocked up on so many great goodies last week! Yipppeeeeeee!

Mr. Boddgington's Studio and Enormous Champion are back in the house - and we could not be more thrilled! Are you in the mood for some squirrely love, or maybe some encouragement to stock up on greeting cards? If so, I think these beauties will do the trick!
These adorable wooden squirrel silhouettes are made in the USA from wood grown in a sustainably harvested forrest. They stand up on their own, but also have a tendency to snuggle up whiskery nose to whiskery nose over a little red heart. How fun - right?! Enormous Champion also designs larger Kingdom Animalia silhouettes. From moose to hippopotamus, and elephants to kangaroos - we love these suckers because they are simple, beautiful, and truly unique!

Mr. Boddington's Studio is by far one of my favorites here at Gus & Ruby Letterpress in terms of greeting cards. I think between the color palette and the sweet details they include in each design, I could find reason to grab up one of each! Don't you feel the same? I would say that it's always a good idea to stock away cards like these - sympathy, retirement, engagement, thanksgiving day - you never know when you'll need a turkey-lurkey card last minute ;)

Enjoy the rest of your week and we hope to see you soon!

2011 Calendar round-up

It's early, I know, but we've had our 2011 calendars out on the shelves for less than a month and they are selling quick! Now that we're in a bigger space with a lot more regular foot traffic, we've had to reconsider the number of different calendars we carry, which means more options for you... or for some of you, a much tougher decision. Below are pics of the calendars currently on our shelves and at the very bottom there are some sneak peeks of the calendars we expect in-store in a couple of weeks.

First up, our absolute favorite and a 2010 best seller for us, a wall calendar by Linda & Harriett. All the designs are hand-illustrated and printed by owner, designer, printer, and soon-to-be mother, Liz. The best part about the calendar is that the back side of each page/month has a postcard printed on it so that when the month or year is up you can trim off the bottom pattern and send a loved one an adorable note! $32

Snow & Graham's famous floral illustrations make up their bold wall calendar and adorable desk version. $26/wall + $18/desk

Waste Not Paper (parent company to Paper-Source) took a page out of Linda & Harriett's playbook this year by creating a calendar with a dual purpose. The back side of each month has a template for a DIY project such as creating a file folder, flat note cards with matching envelopes and various shaped boxes. We love that this calendar is not only recyclable, but reusable too! $28

Our most exciting new calendar this year is by Portland, Maine company, BG2770 Design. And by "company" I mean a 2 person design team. We love carrying goods from local artists, but as you know we are very picky about what we carry in the store. This calendar fits our aesthetic perfectly as all of the bold illustrations are done by Ben and Gergana and it's printed on half as many sheets as our other calendar - a different month on each side. $26

Here's a sneak peek at a few more fabulous calendars that we'll receive in the next couple of weeks. Once they're on the shelves we'll be sure to blog about them in more detail!

October is here...

Hello friends! Today is October 1st - can you believe it? Where did September go? I was thinking to myself recently, when was the last time I received a card in the mail? It's been too long, really. I love snail mail, don't you? I love opening my little post office box and finding more than just junk mail. Those little parcels of love and gratitude, folded up inside of tiny envelopes just do the trick - and they remind you of how a simple, hand-written note can bring a smile to someone else's face. Being thought of by a good friend or loved one is a powerful thing, and so I challenge you to work on your snail mail skills this fall. Here are a few fun, seasonal greeting cards we have on the shelves this fall at Gus & Ruby Letterpress!

Umm, yeh... I know. That letterpress printed candy jar design with vampire teeth and black squirmy-wormies - ADORABLE!

Happy Weekend to you all and here's to the lovely season of snail mail and family gatherings that is upon us!
